Writing about parenthood: A beginner’s guide

February 16, 2023 Uncategorized, Writing Assistant

Parenthood is a wild ride. It can be both gratifying and utterly exhausting all at once. As any parent knows, no two days are ever the same, making writing about parenthood both intimidating and exciting. Whether you’re just starting out as a writer or have been blogging for years, this guide to parenthood will help you find your unique voice and write compelling stories that capture the beauty of raising a family.

Finding Your Voice

The best way to start your writing is to figure out what kind of tone works best for you. Do you prefer humorous anecdotes? Or are inspiring stories more your style? Figuring out your theme early on is critical to finding an audience and connecting with them in meaningful ways. You don’t have to stick to one particular style—you can mix it up if you like! But staying consistent will help you develop a loyal following over time.

Brainstorming Ideas

Once you’ve found your voice, it’s time to start brainstorming ideas for posts. If you’re feeling stuck, start by thinking back on experiences from your own life as a parent that made an impression on you — funny moments, heartwarming memories, lessons learned along the way — these can make great fodder for blog posts! Brainstorming around different themes or topics can also help get the creative juices flowing; there are plenty of resources online explicitly geared towards writers who need inspiration or guidance when coming up with ideas for parents (blogs, podcasts, books).

Writing Process

Now that you have some ideas jotted down, it’s time to sit down and write! Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable in your writing; your readers will appreciate seeing snippets of your life unfiltered. And remember to proofread before publishing; typos and grammar errors can take away from the impact of your post and even turn off potential readers! Finally, don’t pressure yourself too much – remember that practice makes perfect! The more often you write, the better (and easier) it gets over time.

Below are some questions that might help spark memories or inspire content :

About Sylvain Latulippe

Collector of moments and not things, no wonder that I have a passion for photography. Being the oldest in the family and a father of 2 daughters, I realized quickly how much time passed by and how quickly our memories fades. I started the memoFolio project as a tool to bring together all these memories. And from the most impacting one, help people write THEIR story to leave a trace of life experiences to their future generations.
